Kuningatarmaa Finns ja Tonksit gives a taste of Finnish-ness in Queensland (translated as Kuningatarmaa). Queensland is the sunshine state of Australia, a place where Finns have flocked to since the late 19th century.. for different reasons at different times.

Presented are stories of a handful of people who have Finnish ancestry living in Queensland. from the first generation (those that themselves migrated) to the third generation (those whose grandparents made the journey). The stories are about the migratory journey, connections to language, and about cultural identity

Sari is herself a second generation Finnish-Queenslander who became interested in this topic from her own search for understanding of the specific cultural combination that she hails from.

Since early 2013 Sari has collected stories from a variety of people with Finnish ancestry living across Queensland as part of a broader artistic research project titled Mining Doughnuts: Finnish Queenslanders. The development of this body of work has been supported by the Kone Foundations Multilingualism and Art programme.
