Art from Waste and Afro Rhythms at the World Village Festival!
This year the association of transcultural artists in Finland Catalysti ry joins the World Village Festival for the third time! The theme of the year 2018 is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, sustainable economy, climate, environment and human rights with focus on Africa. Catalysti is present with two days of workshops and interactive concert of Senegalese music at the Kids’ Corner area at Kaisaniemi Park.
Future Inside – Art from Waste is a workshop concerned with climate change, the importance of recycling and respect for nature.
Approximately 300 million plastic bags are used in Finland every year, but where do they end up? Under the instruction of Macoumba Ndiaye and Tatiana Solovieva, old plastic bags are turned into beautiful flowers. Bring your own plastic bags to the workshop and surprise a friend with a flower afterward!
Future Inside workshop will be held on Saturday 26th May 2018 at 14:00 – 17:00 and Sunday 27th May 2018 at 13:00 – 16:00. Best suited for children over 3 years of age.

Sen Afro is a Senegalese drum, song and dance chorus that plays traditional West African music. During the performance, the audience sing along and dance to the Mbalax beat and learn new moves and rhythms.
The interactive performance seen at the festival is part of a project launched by the Sen Afro dance and drumming group in Helsinki a year ago. Most of the group’s members are Senegalese musicians who are known in African music and dance circles in Finland.
The members have also collaborated with Mama Africa, Mande Maja and Ridial Band.
The workshop is led by Macoumba Ndiaye (djembe, sabar, bugarabu, song), Ouzin Seck (djembe solo, sabar, song), Baye Diallo Mboup (dundun, tama, vocals), Malick Ndiaye (sabar, song, dance, shakers) and Karoliina Alsti (dance and shakers). The workshop will be held on Sunday 27 May 2018 17:00 – 18:00. Best suited for children over 3 years of age.
