Catalysti + Vuotalo come together this Fall 2025 for a series of 6 artist-led workshops celebrating dance, drawing and sound, zine-making, language understood through clay, symbols of protection, and mushroom imaginations.

This workshop welcomes anyone curious about how home can be made—and remade—through the smallest gestures.
“In this zine-making workshop, you are welcome to join artist Phan Nguyen to explore home not as a fixed location but through a series of gestures, sounds, smells, and small rituals that we inherit, alter or reinvent wherever we are.
Drawing from their ongoing project House4Resistance that explores home as a fluid, ever-shifting practice grounded in everyday life, the workshop invites participants to create “scores for home-making”: simple instructions and reflections that translate mundane acts that nurture a sense of belonging onto paper.

Through guided prompts and simple cut-and-paste, drawing, writing, and sequencing techniques, each participant will create a personal mini-zine reflecting on their own experiences of home. You may take your zine with you and are warmly invited to contribute to a collective zine emerging from the workshop.
Working across lens-based media, sculpture, installation and performances, Phan Nguyen’s current project examines how memories travel and transform across distance, how they reshape one’s sense of rootedness, and how diasporic communities are sustained through acts of care.
Their interests resonate with themes of hidden narratives, grief, transformation, and the ways cultural heritage is carried, reinterpreted, and shared within diasporic genealogies.”
Open to all levels; no prior zine-making experience needed.
