Woven Conversation | Interactive Virtual-Physical Meet and Greet
Woven Conversation is a textile-based durational project initiated by Ploy Thongchamnan, who is on work exchange with Catalsyti since April 2022. During her stay with Catalysti, Ploy is focusing on inventing different ways of communication and portals for the Catalsyti members to connect better with each other. The project consists of two parts, in which Ploy invites Catalysti members and beyond to participate in the weaving process of the artwork virtually and physically. The first part takes place online, and the second part in person during a meet and greet event. The artwork will be completed during the second part.
In the first part, Ploy will host 3 sessions of performative conversation on an online platform where people are invited to engage in discussions on multiple themes related to touch. The discussion will actively influence the artwork in the making. In the second part, the conversation continues in a physical space. During the gathering, Ploy will facilitate a dyeing activity to complete the artwork together with the attendees.
PART 1: GETTING IN TOUCH WITH EACH OTHER
The performative conversation will take place on an online platform. Members of the Catalysti database will have the chance to meet each other through the conversation of ‘touch’ in a virtual space. During the conversation, the weaver will translate the sensibility of the atmosphere through pattern and time. How can the weaving technique ‘Shibori’ bring us closer together in an online world?
The event will take place for 3 days in which each day has its own question related to the topic. You are free to choose when and how long you want to be part of the weaving conversation.

PART 2: DYEING OF THE WOVEN CONVERSATION
Time: Saturday 11 June 2022 from 11:00 till 16:00 EEST
The gesture of the woven conversation continues in the GAP office in Helsinki. Members of the Catalysti database will have the chance to meet each other through the conversation of ‘touch’ in a physical space. During the gathering, we will participate in a hands-on dyeing activity of the woven conversation. You don’t need to be part of the first event ‘ Getting Touch With Each Other’ to be part of this second event.
The participants will translate the sensibility of the atmosphere through color and time. How can a collective artwork show its color of togetherness? Meanwhile, in the process, we invite you for a brunch and a presentation of your work related to the topic. You are free to choose when and how long you want to be part of the workshop. In the end, each participant receives a thread of woven art.

Ploy Thongchamnan is a dynamic and creative designer. She has a scientific background and she researches the interface between design and biology. Her curiosity got engaged to the STEADS collective where she is an active part of the network. She enthusiastically involves the participants in her projects. Ploy strives for co-creation, transdisciplinary collaborations, experimental and multi-sensory installations to establish links between art and science. In addition, she studies the educational master in product design to make the cultural landscape more inclusive and within her ambition to create more diversity.
