Nordic Art Insight, the new art contest of the Nordic Ecolabel, was launched on March 18th. The contest has a grand prize of 100,000 SEK and aims at raising the awareness of sustainable consumerism.
We want to see artwork that absorb, amuse and worry people. Throughout all times, artists have influenced society and have made people welcome new challenges. Since we miss artists voice in todays sustainability debate, we challenge them to enter our competition. An art piece often says more than a thousand words, comments, Ragnar Unge, CEO of Ecolabelling Sweden. He continues:
One of the main challenges of today is how to reach sustainable consumption which considers climate goals as well as a fair distribution of our planets resources.
Apart from creating a piece of art, the artist must also describe how the artwork has been produced from an environmental perspective, so to speak, to be eligible as a contestant. The whole life-cycle of the art piece is to be described, i.e. raw materials used in the process, recycling etc., in the same way as the criteria for the Nordic Ecolabel have a life cycle perspective.
Art students over the age of 18 as well as professional artists with a place of residence in one of the five Nordic countries are invited to enter the Nordic Art Insight competition.
