Inês Carvalho

Inês Carvalho (she/her) is a dance artist advocating dance as a powerful tool for communication – both through movement and writing. She started her career in Portugal, where she studied Contemporary Dance at ESMAE University of Porto, after a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Communications. Since 2014, Inês has been working in the fields of project management and choreography. She directed a pioneer dance therapy project in a public hospital in Porto, while she was working as a freelance contemporary dance teacher and performer. In parallel, she works as communications professional in the areas of marketing, public relations and content creation for dance organisations. She is the co-founder of diagonal dance, a creative agency that provides marketing services to the dance sector. Currently, she is teaching contemporary and creative dance for adults and working as the artistic director on a new production funded by the Portuguese Government.

When not working, Inês is an avid reader and writer. She is a regular contributor to the magazine’s Dance Art Journal and Gerador, writing dance reviews and interviews. Moved by the idea that dance is an accessible language for everyone, her mission is to reach wider audiences and invite them to engage with dance, through movement, writing or reading. She splits her time and work between Portugal, United Kingdom and, most recently, Finland.
