Application period: 9.–31.5.2022.
Olga and Vilho Linnamo Foundation is in its sixth decade in promoting artistic work, new thinking and social action by awarding grants to artists, researchers and for purposes of general interest. The Foundation’s modus operandi is based on a thematic annual call for applications. The annual application period for the Foundation grants is in May: the next round of applications is 9.–31.5.2022. The call for grant applications is published on the Foundation’s website (https://linna-monsaatio.fi/en/linnamo-foundation/) towards the end of April each year.
Awarding grants for arts in even years and for science in odd years, the Foundation follows an alternate-year funding cycle. In addition, the calls for grant applications are built around a specific annually changing theme addressing a particular set of actors within the larger frameworks of arts and science. The grant decisions are made by the Foundation’s board of trustees based on proposals by an advisory panel of experts. Grants to collectives as well as for purposes of general interest are decided upon independently by the board of trustees without a coordinated round of applications.

Under the theme of Contact images, Olga and Vilho Linnamo Foundation announces a new call for applications from artists working with lens-based media. The thematic call aims at promoting artistic work in which the camera functions as a situated medium for address-ing complex social issues. The call is open for professional artists who live and work in Finland and who, through photography, video, or other lens-based medium, provide acute and original angles to the world thus enriching the political dimensions of lens-based arts.
Projects related to photojournalism or documentary films are not included in the call. Applications are welcome from both individual artists and working groups. The grants awarded by the Foundation are either working grants, expenditure grants, or travel grants directly related to the realisation of a particular project. As a rule, the Foundation does not award individual grants exceeding the sum of twelve thousand (12,000) euros. However, in this year’s thematic grant call the Foundation will also award, at most, three individual one-year working grants. The amount of a one-year working grant is twenty-four thousand (24,000) euros.
Guidelines for submitting an application are found on the Foundation’s website under the title Grants / For grant applicants. The application and its required attachments must be submitted as a single pdf file by email to at the latest by Tuesday 31 May 2022 at 23:59 p.m. (UTC+3).
