Global Pasts, Local Presents

City Ghettos of today is a cooperation project between six European cities where the past and present of European migrant communities is explored through arts and in cooperation with social scientists. An installation including locally constructed audiovisual material will be constructed to each city. Helsinki�s installation will be presented in Cultural Centre Stoa and Forum Shopping centre in September 2014. The local contents will also be included in a final installation that collects the material from all the cities in Warsaw in February 2015. The cities involved in the project are Warsaw, Paris, Berlin, Bologna, Milan and Helsinki. The project is coordinated by Strefa Wolnoslowa in Warsaw.

In the pre-workshops on 19.2., 25.2. and 26.2. we start to create the local contents  The first set of workshops concentrates in creating electroacoustic sound walls, consisting of sonic diaries and other sonic creations made by the participants. The workshop is given by a team of artists including Alejandro Olarte, sound artist and composer, Marek Pluciennik, film artist, Walter Fondo, script writer and theater group director and Alex mcKie, community educator. During the workshops art-based methods are explored to develope their further use in active citizenship.
