We invite proposals for environmental artworks and performances, which will be mounted on Vartiosaari island, Helsinki August 25 � 31, 2017.

The application period is March 4 � May 31, 2017.

We will give preference to Nordic, Baltic and Russian artists and artists living in the Nordic and Baltic countries and Russia. However, we can select artists from other countries as well. The curatorial workgroup also invites ONE artists from each Nordic and Baltic country and Russia to participate in the exhibition. Artists Mari Keski-Korsu (Finland), �sa St�hl & Kristina Lindstr�m (Sweden), S�ren Lose (Denmark), Artist duo Martinka Bobrikova & Oscar de Carmen (Norway), Gunnhildur Hauksd�ttir (Iceland), Patrick McGinley (Estonia), �ilvinas Vi�inskas (Lithuania) and Linda Vigdorika and J?nis Noviks (Latvia) have confirmed their participation.

The exhibition area is the island of Vartiosaari in Helsinki. The works will be installed August 25 � 31, 2017. The opening ceremony will take place on September 2, 2017. The exhibition will be open September 3 � October 8, 2017.

How to apply

You can apply  by completing the online application from March 4, 2017. This form must be filled out in English. Only proposals that satisfy the criteria will be accepted. Incomplete proposals or proposals that arrive late will not be considered. Please submit your application at the latest by May 31, 2017 at 23:59 Finnish time (UTC +2 hrs).

No more than two proposals may be submitted by any one artist, and the applications must be completed separately. There is application fee of �10 per applicant.

Read this before applying

Proposals must take into consideration that the exhibition area Vartiosaari is an island off the coast of mainland Helsinki (map), and that the weather conditions can be challenging (possibility of wind and rain). The artworks must not damage nature in any way or pose any hazard to people.

Your Commitment as an Artist � Artist Camp

As an artist, you will be responsible for the production and installation of your work and for any costs incurred by the work itself. The works will not be insured by us, and LARU ART will not accept any liability for any damage to the works during the exhibition. Damaged works will be repaired if possible; otherwise they will be removed. You will be responsible for ensuring that the work does not pose any danger or hazard to people moving about in the area, or cause any damage to the environment, both during installation or throughout the exhibition. If agreed upon, LARU ART can handle the dismantling of the work; otherwise it will remain your responsibility. We expect all the invited and selected artists to be able to stay in Helsinki for the entire duration of the Artist camp, from August 25, 2017 at 14:00 to September 3, 2017 at 14:00.

For selected artists, we will cover reasonable travel costs. In addition, accommodation and food are arranged on the Vartiosaari island for all ten days, including the Artist Camp and the Symposium. About the possible artist fee we will know when we get the rest of the grant decisions.
