Application period: October 330, 2016
Every year, the Helsinki International Curatorial Programme offers up to four one-month residencies in Helsinki for curators of contemporary art. The programme is co-organised by the HIAP Helsinki International Artist Programme and Frame Contemporary Art Finland.
The HICP curators-in-residence live and work at HIAPs international residency centre on the island of Suomenlinna, a 15 minute ferry trip from the centre of Helsinki.
HIAP offers the resident curators a combined workspace and accommodation. Frame provides them with a working grant (39 euros per residency day) and a travel allowance. Both organisations provide the curator fellows with individualised assistance and networking support tailored to their project or research. The HICP curators are invited to join the international residency community and events at HIAP, while Frame provides contacts with extensive networks of Finnish artists and other art professionals.
As part of the residency, HICP and Frame organise a public event, such as a lecture, workshop, or screening presenting each curator fellows project. The presentations are integrated either into Frame or HIAPs programme, or they are organised in collaboration with local partner organisations. The events are designed to share the fellows curatorial research and projects with local professional audiences. The format of the event varies depending on the project.
The length of the curatorial residency is one month. In 2017, the residency periods will be organised as follows:
- June 2017: two one-month curator residencies
- November 2017: two one-month curator residencies
The applicants are asked to state which residency period they prefer in their application form.
The selections will be made by a jury of local artists and art professionals, including representatives of Frame and HIAP. The selected fellows will be notified by the end of December 2016.
Please note that due to the large number of applications, we are unfortunately unable to give feedback about individual applications.
The deadline for the applications is Sunday, October 30, 2016 (11:59pm, GMT +2).
