Nexo Creative Writing OPEN CALL

Deadlines: 21.08.2020 – 21.08.2020 – 21.08.2020

Nexo Creative Writing group offers a safe, brave, and encouraging space for beginner writers who want to explore the basics of creative writing. In the group you can write either in English, Finnish or Spanish. See here below more infos about their call:

“In the group we explore how to use our personal narratives as a tool to fuel our creative writing. We explore our memories, we train our imagination, we learn to be more observant of our surroundings, so at the end, we feel more equipped to use creative writing as a daily resource.

We understand writing as a brave process through which we connect with ourselves and with others. We believe that writing belongs to everybody and if you have the impulse to do it, you should.

During the fall we meet every other week for learning sessions where we learn methods for creative writing and do exercises together. Between the learning sessions we have independent writing sessions, where we come in to use the methods and inspirations we got the previous week.

During the first weeks of the group’s work we explore our own creative writing and let the ideas flow. Towards the end of the group’s work we encourage participants to step out of their comfort zone and share their work. We compile the material into a fanzine and organize an open reading in Caisa where writers may show their work to the public”.

How to join?

The group meets in Kulttuurikeskus Caisa (Kaikukatu 4b, Helsinki) every Thursday 3.9.-5.11.2020 at 17.00-19.00. The final event is held 26.11.2020.*

To join the group, please send  1) a short motivation letter telling who you are and why you are interested in joining the group. Also, include 2) a short (max. 600 words) extract of a creative text written by you. It can be written for any purpose, as long as it shows your interest in writing. You can write in Finnish, English or Spanish.

Send your application with the attachments in PDF files to before 21.8.2020. Do not forget to include your contact information.

*We are cautious of the corona virus’ risks and respect and follow the recommendations of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare throughout the fall.
