Saara Mahbouba (b. San Jose, CA) is a visual artist, writer, and artistic researcher currently based in Helsinki. Her research interests are primarily in the intersection of identity and labor. Saara’s projects typically engage with a mix of critical theory and pop culture, using the languages and strategies of others fields in an attempt to connect beyond the art world. Her favored mediums range from text based work, to visual and media art, as well as performative actions both within and outside of artistic settings.
Saara holds a B.A. in Art History from New York University and an M.A. in Visual Cultures, Curating, and Contemporary Art from Aalto University.
Her professional experience includes work in the cultural sector with galleries, NGOs, and academic institutions. She also works as an independent curator, freelancer, and artistic producer.
