WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW LIGHT AND SOUND ART
Are you interested in working together to implement a new cultural winter event in Kotka in Jan-Feb 2021 with the main focus in light and sound art?
We are now starting the planning and are looking for makers and partners. The event will take place both outdoors in public spaces as well as indoors. The event’s main organizer is the cultural office of the City of Kotka.

Catalysti is looking for someone to work as an intern for spring-autumn 2020.
The candidate needs to be registered as unemployed with the TE-office (http://www.te-palvelut.fi/te/en/index.html).
The internship will include updating the association’s website (in WordPress), as well as social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), working in contact with the members, preparing press releases, and helping with the art events’ organisation. Languages: English and Finnish (not compulsory).
The work is for 4 hours/day for 5 days/week. The contract is for three months (renewable for another three months) for a max. total of six months, starting 10.3.2020. The wage will depend on the person’s particular situation with the unemployment office.

Catalysti is looking for someone to work on the association’s video recordings, video archive, and YouTube channel. The work is 5 hours/day, five days/week (including about 1-2 evenings a month, for the events).
We are looking for a person with professional experience in video recording and editing, and with a good knowledge of online work.
The contract is for a max. of 12 months starting on 5.3.2020. The wage, max. €1400 (gross amount), will be paid through a subsidy from the TE-office – final salary will have to be negotiated by the applicant with their TE-office.
The person needs to be officially registered in the TE-office (http://www.te-palvelut.fi/te/en/index.html) as unemployed for a min. of 24 months, or be over 60 years old, or with a health issue that reduces their employment chances.

Power

“Power exists through many relations. These can be political, financial, cultural and so on. Power can be coercive when distributed unequally which may manifest itself through injustice and inequality. However, the equal distribution of power is about sharing ideas and can lead to real progress in overcoming many of the issues that the world faces today” (David Flood).
The curator will be free to elaborate on the theme and develop it according to their artistic vision.
Requirements
professional experience in curating art exhibitions, good knowledge of the transcultural and Finnish art fields.
proven ability in teamwork, to relate to the artists, organise and coordinate multi-layered projects.
language skills: English (fluent), Finnish (beneficial, not compulsory).
Tasks
to create a strong concept, elaborating and developing the theme mentioned above
selecting a pool of 10-12 artists from Catalysti association (see www.catalysti.fi/artists), through the website and portfolios; work in coordination with the association’s exhibition working group; be present in Cable Factory for a certain period of the exhibition, to present the artists to the art field professionals and to the public
the working months will be April-June (max 15 hours per week) and August-October 2020 (possibly more hours, to be negotiated).
the selection committee will include the Catalysti exhibition working group, as well as experts from G.A.P and Suomen Taiteilijaseura. The committee will select curator candidates to be interviewed in March 2020.
The interviews will take place in Globe Art Point (Malminkatu 5, Helsinki) on 5th March at 5-8 pm, and (depending on the number of candidates) in Caisa Cultural Centre (Kaikukatu 4, Helsinki) on 10th March at 5-8 pm.
The curator will be paid a fee, with funding from the Kone Foundation.
