Catalysti Extraordinary General Meeting, in Caisa, Kaikukatu 4, Maissi -sali, on Friday15.2. at 5-7 pm.
The assembly will elect three new board members. Current board members Ebunoluwa Kivinen and Uzair Amjad would like to be on reserve, and two of the members elected in 2018, Mariam Haji and Gian Majidi, decided to resign.
The candidates are David Flood, Nadja Pärssinen, Roberto Fusco, Tanya Tyniälä, Victor Out and Walter Fondo.
If you can´t make it, please remember you can delegate your vote, by sending an email or sms to another Catalysti member, who will be present at the meeting. The letter or email needs to be printed and shown at the meeting.
Catalysti needs three more active members on the board!
Present board members Ebunoluwa Kivinen and Uzair Amjad are currently very busy and would like to remain as reserve board members, learn in the process and get more active next year. Gian Majidi informed us that he´d prefer to step down from the board, as he´s too busy with his studies and artistic activity. Btw. Mariam Haji left the board last summer, as she realised to be too busy.
The board meets about 6-7 times a year. It is a voluntary work, as written in Catalysti bylaws.

All the profiles will be sent to the members soon. The Extraordinary General Meeting to vote the new board members will be on Friday 15.2. at 5 pm in Caisa Cultural Centre, room Maissi.
Kone foundation awarded Catalysti a grant of 53 000 e for the series of events Diversity in Art: Art in Diversity, taking place in 2019 and 2020.
The program will start on 21.3.2019 with an event for the Week Against Racism curated by Curt Richter, in WHS theatre. The focus will be diversity in all its forms, with a special attention to the LGBTQ community.
World Village Festival 2019 edition, with focus on Climate Change, will be curated by Willem Wilhelmus.

Catalysti is cooperating with the theatre company Strindberg Laboratory (US/Finland www.strindberglaboratory.com), for a one day festival, The Conqueror and the Conquered, to be held in Malmitalo on 25.4.2019.
It will be a community art work. The participants of the festival will be from marginalized populations, including people with disabilities, LGBTQ, people with criminal backgrounds, college students, immigrants and handicapped persons.
“What would bring people from different backgrounds together in Helsinki? Finnish society is very segregated with people who share a similar personal history interacting with each other and the rest being thought of as outsiders” (Strindberg Laboratory)
The day will open with a march of these populations for a more equal society, from Itäkeskus (location to be confirmed) to Malmi, pop-up booths in front of the hall and a new edition of Macbeth (see more infos here below).
The event is supported by the City of Helsinki.
Catalysti will contribute to one of the booths, building small figures representing some of the populations involved and telling their stories.
This could be done through a workshop for children (1 workshop coordinator), and could involve also one storyteller/actor/performance artist.
You are also invited to take part to the march, where there will be a banner of Catalysti Transcultural Artists, alongside with other foreign artists associations.

Editor: edit video for documentation and production, 2 weeks, 300 e

“This festival event will create an experience in which the audience begins the festival with a specific viewpoint on where they fit in the world either being a conqueror or conquered, and through the series of theatrical events within the festival, change their viewpoint into one that is more understanding and inclusive.
What could bring the outsiders and the mainstream together? What if people cross over the invisible lines that divides Helsinki, not to help those that are less fortunate, but simply to partake in an event that a community that is considered not “Finnish” society has created.
We hope to create such an event with pop up booths created by this outside community and college students, that tell a specific historical event, the history of the Suomenlinna Prison during the Civil War: a history that is seemingly Finnish but also has implications with the history from people all over the world, including the United States. This coupled with the production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth will show that the common tale of conqueror and the conquered unites all people” (Strindberg Laboratory).
Welcome to Catalysti 5th year Anniversary get-together!
On Thursday 25th October at 19:00 in Maunulatalo, Metsäpurontie 4, Helsinki. Please confirm your participation before 19.10.
Five years is an important amount of time and we will love to be all together celebrating.
It will be also an occasion to meet and have an open talk about the future of the association.
We wish as many of you can be present!
On the occasion, we´ll give honorary memberships to some transcultural artists who preceded us, Oliver Whitehead, Curt Richter and Charlie Morrow.
It would be nice to have some performances! There will be a PA system and a projector: music, performance art, dance, sound art and video are welcome.
Please do send us your proposals for the programme, each performance can take 10 minutes at the most.
We will also have the cafeteria at our disposal, so if you would like to bring some snacks or cold dishes to sell and raise some money for the association, you can cover your costs and donate. Please let us know in advance.
We will offer some snacks and drinks.
